My take on the book:

As the world is commemorating hundred years since the discovery of Insulin, Dr V. Mohan documents the journey behind its discovery in Toronto by a group of unyielding scientists and medical officers. The book also traces the journey of diabetic care in India in these hundred years, alongside the stories of patients who managed Type 1 Diabetes in their own stride.

The book is a treasure trove for Type 1 Diabetes patients and caregivers, as the author discusses in detail every aspect related to Type 1 diabetes, starting from how the diagnosis and treatment has changed over the decades. There are a total of twenty-four chapters and though there is ample medical terminology, the book is easy to read and understand even for common people. Hence those with understanding of diabetes or with medical background will be able to appreciate this book even more.

There are links and reference material provided at the end of each chapter for interested readers to further lookup on the respective topics. Though there are stories of multiple patients, the author makes sure they are not repetitive with people’s case studies from different ages, backdrops, and timelines. There are some rare pictures included in the book that transport the reader to those places and events in history.

Overall, the book covers all aspects of diabetes especially Type 1 diabetes and is a must read for all those who like to read a comprehensive guide on the topic, which is simple to read and follow.

My rating:

5/5.
