My take on the book:
Arjun while on his way to Shimla for a professional meeting loses control of his car resulting in a gruesome accident. As he concludes those are his last few moments in this world, a sage appears mysteriously, heals Arjun completely and ties a purple thread on his wrist, with a message to visit Hemkund Sahib. While Arjun fails to understand the sage’s appearance and this strange episode, he sets off on a once-in-a-lifetime journey.
His current situation professionally as well as his marriage that is heading towards a divorce, turned Arjun desperate to escape his current surroundings. As Arjun sets off on this journey with an eighteen-year-old guide Chandu, will he find the real purpose of his life and the hidden message by the sage, forms the rest of the story.
As the title signifies, the story is about finding our true calling and inner self as a human being. Instead of straight away writing about it, the author has smartly wrapped the message into a fictional story with a protagonist who is on this journey to find his true self with a few others serving as his guiding lights. I have previously read other works from the same author, so the writing style and narration felt familiar.
The landscape described in the book will magically transport the reader into the hills. There are places where the story drags, however the reason for this has been explained at later parts, so some parts of the story demand the patience of the reader. Also, the story may appeal only to those who prefer to read about spirituality and finding oneself. Pick this one for an interesting read with a strong message and life lessons.
