My take on the book:

Blaze is the memoir of Divyansh penned by his mother Nidhi Poddar along with his father Sushil, as an ode to Divyansh’s indomitable spirit. Divyansh was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of 12 and the book traces his journey and that of his parents, as they collectively fight his health condition. For the next ten years, they travelled countries for his treatment, but what stands out through the journey is the literature that Divyansh created from a very young age.

‘Blaze’ is one of his many creations which was widely applauded, that has been used as the title. Divyansh’s writings are included at the end of the book, though a lot of them appear in the middle when there is a reference to them; the book hence immortalizes his work along with his life. The author Nidhi begins the narrative from the time Divyansh has been conceived, his early childhood and school days, and later once the dreaded condition has been revealed and how Divyansh handled his studies while undergoing painful treatment.

Nidhi touches on both ends of spectrum — people who moved away from their family and those who stood rock solid as support in those testing times. The treatment details are also explained in simple terminology making it easy for a novice to understand. Nidhi includes even the minute details of Divyansh’s life, and the reader will relate to them, especially how mothers can be fussy, protective, and sentimental about their kids. The story will make anyone emotional but is unputdownable as there is high intrigue to keep reading.

It is the unexpected situations coupled with being a bright boy from the beginning, where Divyansh’s maturity reflects in his writings. There is so much to be learnt from his life, on how to deal with life head-on when every day throws a new challenge. This book is a must read for everyone to re-live this heart-touching and brave journey of Divyansh.
