About the author:
Dr. Alka Dixit is a practicing doctor and faculty in a medical college in Delhi NCR. She has been guiding people to live a better life by drawing inspiration from her as well as others’ life experiences. A mishap during childhood, deviation from ‘normal’, medical school, love, two kids and now authoring books, conclude her life in a nutshell. Her first book Life is What Matters was a treasure, with some mantras for living a better life.
My take on the book:
Chase your life dreams by Dr. Alka Dixit is a practical guide on how thought change our destiny and hence the care with which thoughts need to be handled to make us rather than break us. For ease of reading and understanding the book is divided into three parts with first part dealing about how to train the mind as per the situation, second part about how to face problems in life and third part about how to plan and live life in a wholesome way.
Each part is further divided into smaller chapters with an exercise at the end of each chapter which is more of a reminder of the concepts explained in the chapter to summarize and help the reader. These exercises also help the reader to refresh the concepts if they need to refer to them in future. The author explains by quoting real life examples of people close to her, so the book is easy to understand and appropriate for readers of all ages.
I have previously read the author’s first book ‘Life is What Matters’ and the second book clearly shows the author’s growing hold on writing self-help books which are practical, relatable and easy to read even by beginners. If you are starting with the self-help genre then this book is a very good starting point. Also, the fact that the author is a practicing doctor and has extensive experience in handling life issues of her patients adds to the authenticity of the book. The way the book is divided into three [arts helps slowly build up on the final message in last chapters. However, if you have already read many books in this genre, this book may not add additional value.
Pick this book to get a helpful primer on how to train your brain to design a wonderful life and destiny for self. This is definitely one of those books you would want to go back again and again.
My rating:
4.5/5.
