About the author:

Santhosh Sivaraj prefers seeing with the mind, writing with the heart, and living through others. This way, he believes, he gets to live more of life, per life. He has worn many hats in life; that of a Sailor, a Banker, an Entrepreneur, and even a Teacher. But his belief in considering life’s journey to be a destination in itself pushes him to seek further avenues in life. Absurd economics interests him and he loves doing stand-up comedy to his loved ones. He laughs at his own mistakes and loves life unconditionally.

My take on the book:

As the book opens, Adi is driving a truck in the middle of nowhere, thinking he heard a sound similar to his love and wife Nila, but does not seem to place the source of it. He is separated from his wife whom he is looking out for, but there is a part of his memory that is also unfortunately lost. As he tries to recollect the past happenings, he remembers how he met Nila in the far away mountains during one of his visits.

From mountains to villages, Adi finally lands up in the war zone of Syria. Will Adi be able to find the truth behind Nila’s disapperance and will his love for his wife become hindrance in life or will it be the beginning of an inward journey forms the rest of the story.

At the starting, the book throws a little mystery about Adi feeling lost with his lost memory and wife missing. The story slowly takes back the reader to the past happenings in the protagonist’s life and their love story. The high points remain the sequences in Syria and as depicted by the book cover, how the story transitions from a world filled with natural wonders to man-made destruction.

The language is simple and narration though slow at places is engaging. The story which starts as a routine love story takes some unexpected twists and there is literally more than meets the eye that is hidden between the lines. There is an honest portrayal of emotions by the author through the characters and the message of how the journey is always important than the destination. Pick this book to read a different story and a subtle message.
