How and Why Tales by Geeta Ramanujam

My take on the book:

Why Cockroaches die on their back? Why do Nightingales sing at night? How the Moon got her Craters? Why the Snake came to live in the Sea? Why does the clock cover his face? Ever wondered why? How and Why Tales by Geeta Ramanujam is a collection of eighteen such fairy tales and folk lore across the globe.

The stories mainly revolve around nature, trees, forests, animals, oceans, and of course humans but from a past time. These folk tales highlight a time when man and nature co-existed and lived in harmony. The author also gives a small note at end of every story as a trivia for the concept covered in the story.

The author brings to life creatures that have been the essence of folk tales like Ghouls, deadly monsters, Sea horses, Ostriches and Oysters. Each story has an intrigue factor as the reader will wonder how the story will end. The stories are written in an imaginative style that will keep the young readers engaged.

The illustrations, the narration style, the names of characters, the relatability to the stories, the subtle message — everything about these tales is perfect. The book also highlights the need for reviving the art of storytelling and is a must read for young kids.

My rating:

5/5.
