My take on this book:

Tulip always dreamt of taking part in Voicemates, a reality duet singing show which gave the winners a chance to travel to US, a huge sum as prize amount and a singing contract. Her parents however had other dreams for their only child — that Tulip studies to become an engineer. Tulip often sneaked out from her coaching classes without her parents knowledge, to reach the old fort and sing for the kids who gathered there.

Voicemates auditions are finally happening this year in Goa, Tulip’s hometown and incidentally she bumps into Sam another aspiring singer who otherwise sings at a restro bar for livelihood. While participating and winning the reality show is a distant dream for Tulip given her parents aversion towards such shows, it is a golden opportunity for Sam. Will Tulip be able to convince her parents and will she able to overcome her own insecurities, will she find her true voicemate in Sam forms the rest of the story.

This is a sweet feel good story of coming-of-age journey of Tulip from being a naive, young aspiring singer to a person who is confident about what she wants from life and making her own decisions. The story has a beautiful graph for Tulip’s character growing effortlessly. Her transition is very organic and interesting. There arent many characters as the book concentrates majorly on Sam and Tulip and their journey in Voicemates show from one round to another.

While the story isn’t new and the few twists are cliched, the fresh treatment and the relatibility to Tulip and Sam and other supporting characters makes the book a good read. Pick this one to read a beautiful, youthful story of friendship and dreams. If you are a music lover or singer yourself, this is even more an enjoyable read.
